MyPhone Storm TV Review

I took me awhile to unleash on what I got on one of MyPhone latest Android phones with analog mobile TV. Here's my review of MyPhone Storm TV
First off, the main page and app drawer which is kinda customized based on quite old Android Jellybean. For it's 1 GHz Mediatek MT6572 dual-core processor, for sure that I'm not gonna feel the fast transition of apps that I usually have in typical Mediatek quad-core phones even that I tweaked it at developer options. Don't worry it is still usable for basic tasks.

There are what to expect on the call and SMS apps which are doing well. As this is 2G-only phone, it will only have a few seconds of delay of sending texts which is a norm. Receiving and making calls? No problem both straight from the phone and loudspeaker which I really maximized the dual front speakers.

The pull down menu and settings are pleasant to the eyes and for overall navigation. As you already saw the WiFi is the only way to get fast mobile surfing, I also got no issues on surfing but using heavy social media apps are not recommended on this device. I used Opera Mini for almost all of the time.

One thing that you have to concern is the limited amount of app storage which will only give you more than 100 MB but hey it is a budget device. When you have to sideload app/s, it must be from the micro SD as there's no phone storage option. It's a no brainer that this device can install apps from micro SD.

For the camera app, I'm only gonna show the UI as you only have good enough photos on high lighting environment. At least, it is quite enough for social media postings. The announced 3.2 MP rear cam is on 4:3 aspect ratio so if on full screen, the main cam will go down to 1.3 MP.

For me, strongest asset of Storm TV will be the TV reception as it has the highest signal quality that I got so far in a number of feature and Android phones with the said function. That dual speakers also really helped me on viewing. I really enjoyed watching PBA, UAAP, NCAA and NBA on this device on the go. There's also a record function which will give you 320 x 240 resolution at 3gp video format.

The audio is good enough but I am really pleased that MyPhone chose a CTIA-complaint 3.5 mm. audio jack for this one compared to it's competitors at this price point which you'll gonna get the old technology. No problems on my current roster of 3rd party earphones and headphones. The physical play/pause and forward buttons also help a lot on playing your tunes without turning on the phone.

The battery on this device is average on this one. I got 5 1/2 hours of battery life both on playing HD MP4 videos on loop using MX Player and watching TV on 3 volume on earphones on it's 1700 mAh battery. On normal usage with calls, texts, watching TV and some mobile surfing via WiFi, I can get a max of 15 hours.

On Antutu, it got over 9,400 and it has 2 point multi touch

On charging, I can charge it at around 2 1/2 hours on it's 1 ampere charger which is fair. One thing that concerns me is the back cover which is kinda prone in chipping like what the first MyPhone Rio users had experienced.

MyPhone Storm TV specs: 1 GHz Mediatek MT6572 dual-core processor, 4 inch WVGA display, 3.2 MP rear cam with flash, VGA front camera, Android 4.2 Jellybean, 512 MB RAM, 2 GB ROM, dual regular SIM, 2G only, Bluetooth, WiFi, analog mobile TV, real dual front speakers, CTIA-compliant 3.5 mm. audio jack and 1,700 mAh removable battery.

Pros: CTIA-compliant audio jack for it's price range, loud and clear dual front speakers, very good TV reception, good WiFi, calls and texts
Cons: Back cover is on poor quality, no phone storage (sideloading apps via micro SD is an option and you really need a micro SD for taking pics), kinda old Android OS.

MyPhone Storm TV recently got a new lower price of Php 2,099 (from it's previous SRP of Php 2,499). If you are looking for a budget Android phone with very good analog TV signal (bonus that it has good dual front speakers and you don't care about 3G and have a 3rd party CTIA-certified earphones then the MyPhone Storm TV might be for you. I'll gonna give it 3.75 out of 5
