Oppo Neo 5 Review

Finally, I got time to post my first assessment on Oppo's one of midrange offering this 2015. Here's my Oppo Neo 5 review.

First, you'll be greeted by the phone's latest ColorOS 2.0 based on Android 4.4 Kitkat. It's a huge leap for me in terms of smoothness versus those budget devices that they had last year with ColorOS 1.0. Yup, I can't help it but to compare on iOS. The most evident thing was the transition from main page to opening of an app and vice versa. The pulldown menu has also a lot of controls including calculator.

I got quality incoming and outgoing calls on the Neo 5 using both telcos. It's own SMS UI is also easy to my eyes and for usage.

My overall experience in terms of it's hardware reminds me of Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and MyPhone Infinity Lite. One of the qualities that I like: hot-swappable SIM cards and micro SD plus USB OTG

On Antutu, it scored at 19,292 unverified score. I'm glad that 7 out 9 sensors are available on the Neo 5. Speaking of Antutu, I tried to run it with underclocking CPU on (to save battery) and it really worked as I got over 12,000 in score.

On camera, I love it's UI for both cameras but I'm disappointed that the announced 8 MP and 2 MP shootters are both in 4:3 aspect ratio. In selfie cam, you only see the 16:9 ratio at 0.9 MP. Camera quality is average based on my liking.

On battery, it is very good for me as I got around 9 hours and 12 minutes with my standard HD video run test on MX Player. In real time usage with screen time of 5 hours and up, the most that I got off from this device is 26 hours which is so good, thanks to it's 4.5 inch FWVGA display.

On audio, this is so far the best sounding Mediatek MT6582 quad-core phone that I experienced so far based on my observation. It really worked and sounded great in almost all of the music that I had.

Pros: Hot swappable micro SD and SIM, Elegant looking for that price, good camera, USB OTG capable, great sounding phone

Cons: Only 4:3 aspect ratio available in rear cam, FWVGA.

My ratings for Oppo Neo 5 will be at 4.5 out of 5. You can get right now for Php 6,995 at Oppo stores and participating dealers. (Buy it thru Lazada Philippines thru this link!)
